BIOCHAR

Our friends at Green Man Char have put together a great resource introducing a new Mullum Co-Op product BIOCHAR.

Firstly, what is Biochar? Well, it’s essentially like charcoal but it’s made by burning biomass (wood, leaves and branches) in a carefully controlled low-oxygen process called pyrolysis.

It’s the controlled pyrolysis process and very high temperature that gives biochar particular properties targeted for use in soil improvement and plant health.

The benefits of biochar are many and include:

  • Improves soil structure, increases water & nutrient retention
  • Stimulates beneficial soil microbes and mycorrhizal fungi
  • Reduces fertiliser requirements
  • Stores carbon in the ground
  • Add to compost to boost microbial action and to make an enriched mix ready to use in your garden

We love Green Man Char biochar because it is sustainably produced in Australia using local waste biomass and Australian technology. Win, win!

Come into the Co-Op and speak to the team on which biochar is right for you.
